The Universe is full of structure from planets and starts to galaxies with billions of stars - like our own home the Milky Way. However it appears an important invisible ingredient is missing in the Universe - we call this ingredient Dark Matter.
Without Dark Matter the Universe could not form galaxies like our Milky Way galaxy in its short(!) 14 billion year lifetime, and without Dark Matter galaxies would fall apart - it even appears that most of the Universe is made of dark matter!
Prof. Frandsen will talk about the role of Dark Matter in the universe, the evidence and searches for it, and why it is reminiscent of the problems that led physicist like Max Planck (from Kiel) and Niels Bohr (from Copenhagen) to formulate Quantum Mechanics.
